School Closures - Frederick & Meadowview 8/24/23

Dear Frederick and Meadowview Families,

I am writing to alert you that SCHOOL WILL BE CANCELED FOR FREDERICK AND MEADOWVIEW SCHOOLS TOMORROW, THURSDAY, AUGUST 24, 2023. At this time, we expect for school to be in session (and onsite) for all other CCSD 46 schools.

One of two chillers at Frederick is not working, and the functioning chiller simply cannot keep up to the high demand due to the heat. This is causing high temperatures in some classrooms, and very slick floors in the hallways. When this situation became apparent, we added large fans to the classrooms that were most affected, along with fans in the hallways to manage the slick floors.

There is also a cooling problem at Meadowview. We used similar mitigation strategies at Meadowview today.

Our HVAC contractor, Trane, is working on these problems, but we do not think that the situations will be resolved by tomorrow. 

Therefore, school will be closed tomorrow at Frederick and Meadowview. This will be a school closure day, NOT an E-Learning day, because there are too many technical and logistical challenges to implement E-Learning for the second day of class.

We expect repairs to our systems to occur quickly enough so that we can have school on Friday. However, please look for an alert on Thursday to confirm Friday’s plan.

Please know that we did not make this decision lightly, and we apologize for all of the inconveniences that we know that this causes our families.

We hope to be able to welcome our students back into Frederick and Meadowview schools on Friday.

Les escribo para avisarles que LAS CLASES SERÁN CANCELADAS PARA LA ESCUELA FREDERICK Y MEADOWVIEW MAÑANA, JUEVES, 24 DE AGOSTO, 2023. En este momento, esperamos que las clases sigan en sesión (presenciales) para todas las demás escuelas CCSD 46.

Uno de los dos aires acondicionados en Frederick no está funcionando, y el aire acondicionado que funciona simplemente no puede sostener la alta demanda debido al calor. Esto está causando altas temperaturas en algunos salones, y suelos muy resbaladizos en los pasillos. Cuando esta situación se hizo evidente, añadimos grandes ventiladores a los salones más afectados, junto con ventiladores en los pasillos para controlar los suelos resbaladizos.

También hay un problema con el aire acondicionado en Meadowview. Hoy usamos estrategias de mitigación similares en Meadowview.

Nuestro contratista de HVAC, Trane, está trabajando en estos problemas, pero no creemos que estas situaciónes se resuelva para mañana. 

Por lo tanto, la escuela estará cerrada mañana en Frederick y Meadowview. Este será un día de cierre de la escuela, NO un día de E-Learning, porque hay demasiados desafíos técnicos y logísticos para implementar E-Learning para el segundo día de clase.
