FS School Closure Update - 8/25/23

Dear Frederick Families,

I’m writing with an update regarding HVAC at Frederick. There have been two emergency building mechanical issues this week. 

The first issue is the chiller, which is a large piece of machinery that cools the building. The chiller broke down on Wednesday, on one of the hottest days on record, resulting in no student attendance for Thursday and Friday. Working in partnership with Trane Technologies, a temporary chiller unit will be installed over the weekend. This will be transported from out-of-state on a truck and is scheduled to arrive on Sunday. At that time, Trane Technologies technicians will install it, and district staff will be onsite as support. This temporary chiller unit will provide cooling relief for the next month. The permanent chiller needs repair, and that work is scheduled to begin next week. 

The second issue is a rooftop air handling unit (AHU) that accumulated excess water condensation which came through the ceiling. AHUs help circulate air through buildings. No classrooms were affected, and this area will be closed while it is restored.

You will hear from me again on Sunday. We have every expectation that the work will be completed that day and that we will be able to re-open Frederick to students and staff on Monday.

We greatly appreciate your understanding of what occurred during this unprecedented heat wave, and look forward to welcoming our students back to school.

Estimadas familias de Frederick,

Les escribo con una actualización con respecto al sistema HVAC en Frederick. Se nos han presentado dos problemas mecánicos de emergencia en el edificio esta semana.

El primer problema es el enfriador, el cual es una maquinaria industrial que enfría el edificio. falló el miércoles, en uno de los días más calurosos de la historia, por lo que los estudiantes no asistieron el jueves y el viernes. En colaboración con Trane Technologies, se instalará una unidad de refrigeración provisional durante el fin de semana. Se transportará desde otro estado en un camión y está previsto que llegue el domingo. En ese momento, los técnicos de Trane Technologies lo instalarán, y el personal del distrito estará presente como apoyo. Esta unidad de refrigeración temporal proporcionará refrigeración durante el próximo mes. El enfriador permanente necesita reparación, y está previsto que los trabajos comiencen la semana entrante.

El segundo problema es que una unidad de tratamiento de aire (UTA) de la azotea acumuló un exceso de condensación de agua que atravesó el techo. El UTA ayuda a hacer circular el aire por los edificios. Ninguna clase se ha visto afectada, y esta zona permanecerá cerrada mientras se restaura.

Volverán a tener noticias mías el domingo. Esperamos que el trabajo se complete ese día y que podamos reabrir Frederick para los estudiantes y al personal el día lunes.
