Dear CCSD 46 Community,
We have been back in school for about two weeks, and from my school visits and communications with students, families, and staff, these two weeks have been a wonderful whirlwind! The smiles of students in the classrooms, in the halls, and outside display the joy of togetherness and excitement of learning. In short, children and adults are expressing that we are just so happy to be back!
When You See Something, Say Something
We are glad that today a few students at Frederick let adults at school know that they had a safety concern. During recess today, several students reported an individual walking eastbound past the school in a way that they felt was suspicious, and one student also reported seeing this person pull an unknown object from his pocket. Administration immediately notified the Grayslake Police Department.
Officers quickly arrived at school and interviewed staff and students to get a complete description while other members of the department searched the local community for this individual. Police believe that at no time was there ever any active threat to the safety of our school community. Officers are going to continue efforts to try to identify the individual.
We felt it was important to share this information with all stakeholders in our school district community to prevent any misinformation or cause for concern going forward. While there was never any active threat to the safety of our school community, we appreciate that students were quick to report something that caused some concern or made them feel uncomfortable.
We encourage all parents and guardians to reinforce the importance of notifying a trusted adult in any situation in which children observe something or someone that seems out of place or raises suspicion. It takes all of us working together as a community to keep our schools as safe as possible.
Pop-Up Food Giveaway for Families Facing Food Insecurity
Community Action Partnerships of Lake County and Avon Township invite you to pick up fresh produce, perishables, and more this Saturday, September 3, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (or until supplies last) at Avon Township, 433 E. Washington Street, Round Lake Park.
Pop-Up Food Giveaways will also occur at the same time and location on Saturday, September 17, and Saturday, October 1.
Family Events Hosted by Foundation46: Scavenger Hunts and Go-Kart Races
Are you looking for something fun for your family to do over the long Labor Day weekend? Foundation46 is hosting school-specific scavenger hunts! Participate in one, or participate in them all! The hunts are not “time specific”, so your family can participate whenever it works for you, up through September 18th. Please note that the event is a fundraiser for Foundation46, and families are invited to donate as little or as much as they feel comfortable. Please see more information here.
Foundation46 is also hosting Go-Kart Races in the parking lot at Park Campus at 1:00 on Sunday, October 2nd. Students are encouraged to round up a group of friends to design environmentally-friendly go-karts! More information can be found here and here.
Shield Testing Update
As was shared prior to the start of the school year, we plan to continue offering free, voluntary, weekly diagnostic COVID-19 saliva testing to all students and staff through SHIELD. We are using an “opt-in” method for testing permissions. Therefore, any parents/guardians who wish to have their child(ren) participate in this program are required to complete an opt-in form. If you would like your child to participate in this program, please complete the Opt-In Form by Friday, September 9th.
Please note that we must reach a participation threshold in order to offer this free testing, and at this time that threshold has not been reached. If we do not receive enough testing permissions, we will not be able to run the program.

Estimada familias de CCSD 46,
¡Regresamos a la escuela durante aproximadamente dos semanas y, según mis visitas a la escuela y las comunicaciones con los estudiantes, las familias y el personal, estas dos semanas han sido un torbellino maravilloso! Las sonrisas de los estudiantes en las aulas, en los pasillos y afuera muestran la alegría de estar juntos y el entusiasmo por aprender. En resumen, niños y adultos están expresando que estamos muy contentos de estar de vuelta.
Cuando veas algo, di algo
Estamos contentos de que hoy algunos estudiantes de Frederick les hayan hecho saber a los adultos en la escuela que tenían un problema de seguridad. Durante el recreo de hoy, varios estudiantes informaron que un individuo caminaba hacia el este pasando la escuela de una manera que les pareció sospechosa, y un estudiante también informó haber visto a esta persona sacar un objeto desconocido de su bolsillo. La administración notificó de inmediato al Departamento de Policía de Grayslake.
Los oficiales llegaron rápidamente a la escuela y entrevistaron al personal y a los estudiantes para obtener una descripción completa mientras otros miembros del departamento buscaban a esta persona en la comunidad local. La policía cree que en ningún momento hubo una amenaza activa a la seguridad de nuestra comunidad escolar. Los oficiales continuarán los esfuerzos para tratar de identificar al individuo.
Sentimos que era importante compartir esta información con todas las partes interesadas en la comunidad de nuestro distrito escolar para evitar cualquier desinformación o motivo de preocupación en el futuro. Sorteo de comida para familias que enfrentan inseguridad alimentaria
Community Action Partnerships of Lake County y Avon Township lo invitan a recoger productos frescos, perecederos y más este sábado 3 de septiembre de 10:00 a. m. a 12:00 p. m. (o hasta agotar existencias) en Avon Township, 433 E. Calle Washington, Parque Round Lake.
Los obsequios de alimentos emergentes también se realizarán a la misma hora y en el mismo lugar el sábado 17 de septiembre y el sábado 1 de octubre.
Eventos familiares organizados por Foundation46: Búsquedas del tesoro y carreras de karts
¿Está buscando algo divertido para su familia durante el largo fin de semana del Día del Trabajo? ¡Foundation46 está organizando búsquedas del tesoro específicas de la escuela! ¡Participa en uno, o participa en todos! Las cacerías no son ‘específicas en el tiempo’, por lo que su familia puede participar cuando le convenga, hasta el 18 de septiembre. Tenga en cuenta que el evento es para recaudar fondos para Foundation46, y las familias están invitadas a donar tanto como se sientan cómodos. Por favor vea más información aquí.

Actualización de prueba SHIELD
Como se compartió antes del comienzo del año escolar, planeamos continuar ofreciendo pruebas de saliva diagnósticas gratuitas, voluntarias y semanales de COVID-19 a todos los estudiantes y al personal a través de SHIELD. Estamos utilizando un método de ‘suscripción voluntaria’ para probar los permisos. Por lo tanto, todos los padres/tutores que deseen que sus hijos participen en este programa deben completar un formulario de suscripción. Si desea que su hijo participe en este programa, complete el formulario de suscripción antes del viernes 9 de septiembre.
Tenga en cuenta que debemos alcanzar un umbral de participación para poder ofrecer esta prueba gratuita y, en este momento, ese umbral no se ha alcanzado. Si no recibimos suficientes permisos de prueba, no podremos ejecutar el programa.
